(Long Island, New York is the United States' most exciting...)
Long Island, New York is the United States' most exciting emerging wine region. In an engaging style, the authors present this fascinating story as both a rich history of the region and a succinct guide to all of its established and new wineries. Lucid and authoritative chapters on grape varieties and the making of wine provide readers with the key facts they need to be knowledgeable sippers at the tasting rooms or at dinner parties. The book is profusely illustrated with Sara Matthews's photographs - in color and black and white - which bring the vineyards and this bucolic region to life.

An insightful look at Barrett's evolutionary works, which are inspired by his search for a synthethis between the tactile process of free modelling, the expressive gesture, and the craft of welding sheets of metal. The results are lyrical, commanding, and beautifully crafted.

(Richard McDermott Miller has had a long and distinguished...)
Richard McDermott Miller has had a long and distinguished artistic career. His sculptures are represented in important museums and collections around the world, including the Hirshhorn Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Canton Art Institute, the Butler Institute, Japan's Hakone Museum, the National Academy of Design, Duke University and the Universities of Houston and Nebraska. His large scale commissions are on public view in Dallas, Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina. He has been honored by the American Academy, the Institute of Arts and Letters and the National Academy of Design, which he served as President from 1989 to 1992. Miller's work is in the great figurative tradition of sculpture that had its origins in prehistoric times and attained transforming heights in Ancient Egypt and Greece, Renaissance Italy, and nineteenth-century Europe. Drawing his inspiration from the past, he has revitalized that tradition through a sensitive, highly skilled, and distinctly twentieth century American approach to the figure, particularly the female nude. In the words of the critic, Howard Kalish, "The animated spirit with which he manages to invest his figures enables them to express what only sculpture can and places his work in line with the best of that great tradition."
