Kornreich received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1962. Five years later he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Kornreich began his career as a an engineer at Radio Corporation of America in 1955. Three years later he took a position of a research engineer at Sperry Rand Univac. In 1967, Philipp became an assistant professor and then an associate professor at Syracuse University. Nowadays he is a professor of engineering at College of Engineering and Computer Science of the Syracuse University.
