Philippa Berry obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from King's College Cambridge in 1977. She obtained Master of Arts in English from the University of Sussex in English Literature in 1978. In 1985, Berry earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Sussex in Comparative Renaissance Literature.
Philippa Berry worked as a Lecturer at the University of al-Qarawiyyin, Fes, Morocco from 1980 to 1984. After lecturing for a year at the University of East Anglia, she occupied the same post at the West London Institute of Higher Education serving in that capacity until 1988. From 1988 to 2004 Berry was a Fellow and Director of Studies in English at King's College, Cambridge. She took early retirement on grounds of ill health in 2004
Philippa Berry is an author and former educator who wrote books and articles on English Renaissance literature and on postmodern culture and literary theory, including Of Chastity and Power: Elizabethan Literature and the Unmarried Queen, and Shakespeare's Feminine Endings.
Berry was a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge from 1988 to 2004. She was listed as a noteworthy English Literature educator by Marquis Who's Who.
