Born on 9 July 1922, Phillip Bridges was educated at Bedford School.
During the Second World War he served as a Captain with the Royal Artillery, and with the Royal West African Frontier Force in West Africa, India and Burma, between 1941 and 1947. He joined the Colonial Legal Service and became a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of The Gambia in 1954. He was Solicitor General of The Gambia, between 1963 and 1964, Attorney General of The Gambia, between 1964 and 1968, and Chief Justice of the Gambia, between 1968 and 1983.
He died on 26 December 2007.
Married 1st Rosemary Ann Streeten in 1951 (dissolved in 1961), two son one daughter. Married 2nd Angela Mary (nee Dearden) Huyton.
