Bliss, Phillip Paul was born on July 9, 1838 in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Isaac and Lydia (Doolittle) Bliss.

Education

Studied music at academic, Geneso, New York.

Career

Worked on farms, in lumber camps and taught school during youth. Became member music publishing firm Root and Cady, Chicago, circa 1865. Conducted musical convs., gave concerts throughout Illinois.

Became chorister of 1st Congregational Church of Chicago. Evangelist (with D. W. Whittle) throughout West and South, 1874-1876. Author: (song books) The Charm, 1871.
