Phillip Rick Dingus received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1973 and his Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art Photography from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, in 1977.
A lecturer in photography and drawing at New Mexico Tech, Socorro, since 1979, Phillip Rick Dingus was also a guest lecturer at the Santa Fe Gallery of Photography in New Mexico, and a visiting artist at the School of Fine Arts, University of California, Irvine, in 1979.
Phillip Rick Dingus was a field photographer for both the "Rephotographic Survey" of South-West sites originally photographed by nineteenth century expeditionary photographers and the National Park Service (1977-1978).
