He had some success with the side including the winning of a National Hurling League title in 1992, but failed to capture either Munster Championship, or All Ireland success. The closest he got was to contest the 1992 Munster Final against Cork in Semple Stadium, Thurles, but Limerick lost on a scoreline of 1-22 to 3-11.
He played hurling with his local club Patrickswell and was a member of the Limerick senior inter-county team in the 1960s and 1970s.
