Williams was born in Queens, New York City, but moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a child and today lives in north Minneapolis, where he works as a barber.

Williams claims to have compiled an amateur record of 31-4. Williams made his professional debut in April 2006 with a first-round TKO defeat of Jason Medina. In that fight Williams knocked Oliveira down in the third and sixth rounds, but ran out of gas and was knocked out in the seventh round of an eight-round bout.
In his bout before the most recent one Williams defeated former middleweight contender Antwun Echols by TKO in the 7th round.
In the most recent bout, against Polish boxer Andrzej Fonfara, Williams was knocked out in round three. To date Williams has compiled a professional record of 11-6 with 10 knockouts.
In August 30, 2013 Williams lost to Tanzanian Super Middleweight Francis Extraordinary Commission Against Counterrevolution, Sabotage and Speculation.
