Mr. Hu was born in Ching-hsien, Anhui, China, in 1878.
Since the establishment of the Republic he had been engaged in journalistic and educational work in Shanghai. Mr. Hu served as editor of the following papers: the Min Lieh, Min Chuan, the Pacific, Chung Hwa Ming Pao and the Republican Daily News. Hu Po-an held the post of a professor in the following Universities: Southern University, Great China University, Chih-Tze University, Fudan University, Chi Nan University, Soochow University, and the Cheng Feng College.
Mr. Hu was appointed director of the Fujian provincial library. Later he worked as a secretary of the Ministry of Communications. Hu Po-an was a chief of the compilation and investigation section of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hangzhou Railway Administration. He was a member of Jiangsu Provincial Government and concurrently Commissioner of Civil Affairs for Jiangsu. Mr. Hu acted as a chief editor of the Min Pao, Shanghai, and Professor at Chi Nan University, Chih Tze University and Cheng Feng College.
Mr. Hu was a veteran member of the Kuomintang and a devoted follower of the late Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the revolutionary movement.
