He received his Bachelor and Master of Science in Economics in 1998 and 1999, respectively, from Pompeu Fabra University Barcelona and his Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003.

He is also a research associate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the National Bureau of Economic Research (National Bureau of Economic Research), where he led the International Trade and Organization working group. He is a co-editor of the Journal of International Economics, a foreign editor of the Review of Economic Studies, and is on the editorial board of the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Economic Review, and the Annual Review of Economics, among others
He is a member of the CESifo Group.
