1921-1928, under A.Osmerkin and A.Shevchenko. Became one of the three graphic artists working under the pseudonym Kukryniksy (Kupriianov, Krylov and Sokolov) in 1924. Worked also as an illustrator, caricaturist, stage designer, portrait and landscape painter.
From 1925, worked for Pravda and Krokodit. Apart from illustrating M. Saltykov-Shchedrin, Ilf and Petrov, and A. Chekhov’s short stories, the Kukryniksy mainly worked as propaganda artists whose satires were directed first of all against foreign and internal state enemies. During World War II and the postwar years, they contributed to almost every official political magazine and newspaper.
Exhibited from 1931 at every political exhibition. Personal exhibitions as the Kukryniksy also took place from 1932 onwards.
