Professor Edward HULL

Background

HULL, Professor Edward was born on May 21, 1829 in Antrim, Ireland. Son of late Reverend John Dawson Hull, Vicar of Wickham brook, Suffolk.

Education

Studied at Trinity College Dublin (Master of Arts). Doctor of Laws.

Career

Appointed to Geological Survey of United Kingdom, 1850. Scot. District Surveyor, 1867. Ireland Director, 1869.

Professor of Geology in the Royal College of Science.

Retired 1890; President Royal Geological Society, Ireland, 1873. Conducted a scientific expedition through Arabia Petraea and Palestine, sent out by Committee of Palestine Exploration Fund, 1883 - 84.

A member of Royal Commission on Coal Reserves, 1891. Secretary to the Victoria Institute in 1900.
