Studied at Cathedral School and University, Upsala. Doctor philosophy at Upsala University, 1884. Privatdocent, 1884; Teacher of Physics, University, Stockholm, 1891.
Professor of Physics at the same University, 1895. Rector, 1897-1902; Director of the Nobel Institute, subordinate to the Academy of Sciences, 1905. Davy Medal, 1902; Nobel Prize, 1903.
Doctor medical. honorary causa, Heidelberg, 1903.
Doctor science honorary causa, Oxford and Cambridge, 1908. Doctor ph. honorary causa, Leipzig, 1909.
Honourable Member Chemical Society, London, and Royal Institution. Member of a great number of academies and learned societies in Europe and America.
Originator of the theory of electrolytic dissociation.
1884 and 18S7, whereby the chemical processes are explained as dependent on the electric conductivity of the reacting solutions. Doctor philosophy et medical. Director of the Physico-Chemical Department of the Nobel Institute since 1005.
