For many years he has taken a prominent part in all matters concerning the public health, and to his exertions it is mainly due that statutory |jrovision exists necessitating that medical officers of health should possess a qualification in public health. Founder of the British Institute of Public Health. President 1894-1995. As a Manager of Metropolitan Asylum Board has taken a prominent part in dealing with question of infectious hospital provision and infectious disease treatment in London, and as first Medical Adviser of School Board took a noteworthy part in pmtting all questions of school hygiene upon a proper footing, and has rendered great service in connection with the Special Schools for Feeble-minded Children.
