In 1928, Promode Ranjan Guha Shahabad graduated from Patna University with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree. In 1931, he took I.E. examination.
Promode Ranjan Guha Shahabad was a specialist in hydraulic engineering. In 1929-1942, he was in the position of an assistant engineer at the Irrigation Department, Bihar and Orissa. In 1942-1950, he worked as an executive engineer and investigated Kosi High Dam and Irrigation Project. In 1950-1954, Promode Ranjan Guha Shahabad investigated the Gandak Project as a superintending engineer. In 1954-1957, he was a technical adviser of Kosi Project. In 1957-1958, he worked as an additional Chief Engineer of Kosi Project. In 1958-1960, Promode Ranjan Guha Shahabad was the Chief Engineer at the Irrigation Department. Since 1960, he was the Chief Engineer of Gandak and Sone Projects.
In 1955, the scientist represented India at the World Power Conference held in Paris. He toured the UK, France, Switzerland. To see the construction of dams, Promode Ranjan Guha Shahabad traveled to Tunisia.
The scientist was a member of the Institution of Engineers of India (served as the chairman of Bibar Centre), Central Board of Irrigation of India (vice-president).
