1887 graduate Military Medical Academy.
After graduation trained for professorship at Military Medical Academy. 1891 wrote doctor’s thesis on tuberculosis of the bones and joints. From 1892 head Bacteriological Section and intern, Surgical Department, Tashkent Military Hospitals.
1894 began research on the etiology of Oriental sores (Aden ulcer). 23 September 1898 delivered paper on the pathogenic agent of this disease to Russian Surgical Social in Saint St. Petersburg. November 1898 published results of his discovery in the Voyenno-meditsinskiy zhurnal.
Refuted the prevalent theory that Oriental sores were caused by a bacterial agent and provided a key to the propagation, treatment and prophylaxis of Leishmaniosis. His findings had a decisive influence on the research of A. Wright, Leishman and C. Donovan during the next five years. 1932 his discovery received international recognition.
From 1920 until death head Chair of Hospital Surgery, Centr Asian Medical Institute, Tashkent. Helped to organize public health service in Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic.
Chairman, Tashkent Social of Physicians. His portrait hangs in the gallery of eminent parasitologists at the Molten Institute, Cambridge. Wrote some 50 works on hospital surgery, et cetera
