Career
In the early 12th century he was a personal architect of the Kievan Prince Rurik. His name was mentioned in the Ipatyev chronicle in connection with the construction in 1119 of a breast-wall at the side of the Dnieper River, which was also an observation platform, at the Vydubetsk monastery near Kiev.
To the prince’s order Milaneh constructed the Church of St.Basil in Ovruch, the Churchof SS. Apostles in Belgorodand the Good Friday Church in Chernigov, Ukraine. The traditions of the Hrodna school are distinctly traced in the architectural monuments through polished colour stones and ceramic slabs in the walls, tapered angles, breast-walls and observation platforms which are similar at the Vydubetsk monastery and at the Hrodna fortified central square.
