Graduate Saint St. Petersburg Mining Institute. 1907 graduate General Staff Academy.
From 1904 on military service. Toward end of World War 1 commanded cavalry corporations During Civil War served with General Denikin’s forces and commanded 1st Cavalry Division, then Cavalry Corps.
Spring 1919 commanded Caucasian Volunteer Army. December 1919 appointed commander, main forces of Volunteer Army in Khar’kov Sector. April 1920, at Military Council in Sebastopol, elected commander in chief of Southern Russian Armed Forces in place of General Denikin.
After Red Army’s victory in Crimea he was evacuated to Constantinople with the remnants of his forces.
