(This companion grammar book to Chinese for Tomorrow Volum...)
This companion grammar book to Chinese for Tomorrow Volume 2 contains systematic explanations of the basic grammatical principles of Mandarin Chinese. Following a step-by-step progression and published as a separate volume to give students and teachers more flexibility, this book fulfills the basic grammar requirement for a second-year course in Chinese. The Chinese for Tomorrow textbook and companion grammar book are based upon a two-pronged approach to language learning. In the textbook, concise, clear explanations of language points help students grasp and use the language immediately as they encounter new words and phrases. In the grammar book, more detailed explanations with examples help students gain a deeper knowledge and analytical understanding of the grammatical, phonological , and pragmatic systems of the language. This two-pronged approach to language learning frees students to focus on the most natural, relevant, and interesting language in the textbook, while providing a structured, step-by-step program for mastering grammar in the grammar book. The topics in the grammar books serve to reinforce what was learned in the textbook, clarify new usage, and solidify students' grasp of grammar.
