Career
His family were poets and craftsmen. He wrote in the Azerbaijani language; he continued the traditions of Nasimi and Fuzuli. Qovsi’s work contributed to the rapprochement of literary language with folksy speech. The main genre of Qovsi’s lyrics is the gazelle; its main themes are the praise of the Creator, the beauty of nature, the love of woman, the denunciation of vice and lies; it is imbued with appeals to goodness and justice Qovsi’s poems are distinguished by their elegant form and rich intonation.
