Pike attended the University of Bath in England in 1976. Next year he obtained a teaching certificate at Skidmore College. He also graduated from Union College (with honours) in 1978, and received a Master of Arts degree at State University of New York at Stony Brook (with honours) in 1981.
Pike started his career as a secondary school teacher of English at Ticonderoga Central School District in 1978. Two years later he went to Sachem Central School District, Ronkonkoma, and since 1981, he works as a freelance writer and a secondary school teacher of English at William Floyd Central School District.
Since 1992, Pike is also a book reviewer for Family Life Journal.
