COHEN, Rabbi Francis Lyon was born on November 14, 1862 in Aldershot. Son of Woolf Henry Cohen and Harriett nee Phillips.

Education

Studied at Jews’ College, London. University College London. Minister Dublin Hebrew Congregation, 1885-1886.

Minister Borough New Synagogue, London, 1886-1904. Tutor at Jews’ College, 1886-1904.

Career

Ordained Rabbi, 1905. Chaplain to Jews in the British Army, 1892-1904. A founder Jewish Lads’ Brigade.

Late Visiting Chaplain His Majesty’s Prison, Brixton, City of London Asylum, Training-ship “Exmouth,” etc. Chief minister of the Great Synagogue, Sydney, and president of the Jewish Ecclesiastical Court (Beth Din) for New South Wales; Chaplain to the Commonwealth Forces.
