(Core Collection for Small Libraries includes both classic...)
Core Collection for Small Libraries includes both classic and contemporary titles, a basic collection suitable for a small library. Cutting across ethnic lines, the bibliography provides selections suitable for an audience concerned with solid moral and family values. It could be utilized by new schools wishing to expand or evaluate their present collection, by teachers striving to create a balanced approach to whole-language classrooms, by home school parents, by counselors in bibliotherapy, or simply as a guide to good reading. Recognizing that children develop at varying speed in various directions, this bibliography indicates very broad educational levels, leaving room within each category to meet individual interest and reading skills. Features included in each entry are title, author, publisher, awards won by the book, a brief annotation of the book, suggestions for applications of the book in a classroom setting, and a list of positive character values presented in the volume. Chapters cover picture books, traditional stories, fantasy, historical fiction, contemporary fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and multicultural titles. An explanation of major awards given to children's works is included in an appendix. Includes subject, author and title indexes.

(Contemporary Christian Authors focuses on story-makers wh...)
Contemporary Christian Authors focuses on story-makers who have achieved a wide following through at least one outstanding contribution to the market, while most have penned numerous offerings. Some are recognized in more than one genre, and many publish across age levels. The common thread for all of the writers is the commitment to a philosophy based on traditional values and a Christian world view. Whatever the style, inspirational fiction has the distinction of including spiritual principles to guide and strengthen the reader's daily life. Each author's entry begins with a brief introduction to the writer as a person, followed by the professional section listing education completed, career experiences, awards won, and memberships maintained. A comprehensive inventory of the author's published works arranged by target audience and genre comprises the publications division. An expanded biographical narrative in the personal segment gives our readers insight into each person's research techniques and the literary elements emphasized in their writing. In the summary section, at least one title representing the author's style has been highlighted with a brief synopsis. More than one annotation is given for those who have written multiple series, those who have penned works demonstrating a wide range of creativity, or authors who have worked both alone and with writing partners. To provide authentic responses to works aimed at a juvenile audience, reviews were solicited from young readers. On occasion, authors have included personal annotations of their works which reveal the purpose, style, and richness of the writer's language.
