Background
Rafael Megall was born on January 2, 1983 in Yerevan in what was then the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic of the Soviet Union. His father Armen Melikyan is a well known doctor (endoscopic surgery).

From 1998 to 2004 he attended the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts.
He is noted for his innovative style of drawing, unique perception of line, color sketches and portrayal of religious iconography of the Armenian miniatures. Early life and education
Megall started to paint when he was 9 years old. His further artistic and creative work opened to his own unique style of painting and visionary artistic philosophy.

In 2013 the President of Armenia gave him the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia.
In 2014 he was granted the "Arshil Gorky" honorable Medal by the Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.
