At the age of 7, went with his parents to Palestine. On finishing school there, went back to Russia. Returned to Tel-Aviv in 1921.
Worked there as a labourer and a baker’s apprentice. In 1924, entered the Teatron Eretz Iisrael (Palestine Theatre) working closely with its founder Menahem Gessin. In 1928, made his debut with the Habimah which had been originally formed in Moscow in 1917 for the production of plays in Hebrew.
Minor part in the 1928 revival of the Evgenii Vakhtangov Theatre production of The
Dybbuk in Moscow. Went on the company’s international tours. The group visited Britain 3 times and appeared in the first BBC TV transmission of The Dybbuk from Alexandra Palace in 1937.
Appeared in Sir Peter Daubeny’s World Theatre Season, 1965.
