Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a Pakistani musician, primarily of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Muslim Sufis. He is also popular as a playback singer in Bollywood and the Pakistan film industry.
Background
Rahat was born on December 9, 1974, into a family of Qawwals and classical singers in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. He is the son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, grandson of Fateh Ali Khan and the nephew of legendary Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Education
Rahat displayed an adoration for music from a very young age and was often found to be singing with his uncle and father, as young as three. From an age of seven, he was already being trained by his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in the art of singing Qawwali.
Career
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan used to perform in a different program with his uncle and was associated with the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Qawwali group. In 1985, Rahat toured in the United Kingdom with his uncle and performed well in the solo song.
The singer made his playback debut with the Bollywood movie ‘Paap’ for the song ‘Mann Ki Lagan’ in 2003. With his uncle, Rahat worked for the American rock band, Pearl Jam. He was the judge for the music show ‘Chhote Ustaad 2’ alongside Sonu Nigam.
Rahat became the first Pakistani to perform at any Nobel Prize concert, when he was invited to the concert at 2014 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. He performed Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's most memorable qawwali "Tumhe Dillagi" and "Mast Qalandar", and he also sang "Aao Parhao" there.
Rahat showed off magnificent singing performance in the song ‘Zaroori Tha’ that is a heart touching song. The song is so hit on Youtube and it conveys positive acclamation for the singer. ‘Naina Re’ is his another popular song which sang with Himesh and Shreya Ghoshal. Already the singer presented lots of popular single track including ‘Noor e Khuda’ and ‘Dillagi’.
