Kumar was one of the original players of Pune F.C. in 2007. Kumar played the school nationals in Kolkata in 2001, and in Chandigarh in 2002. He also played the U-21 nationals and later went on to play for the Punjab senior team in 2005. After school he joined the JCT Academy and worked at the Punjab Electricity Board before joining Pune F.C. Since 2016 he has been a football player for Churchill Brothers S.C.
