Raisho was born in 1796 in Kyoto, Japan.
Raisho studied under Nangaku Watanabe and Ozui Maruyama, a master of the Maruyama school.
Raisho became the greatest master of the school toward the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. When the Imperial Palace in Kyoto was rebuilt, he painted its walls and paper screens. Among his disciples were such renowned artists as Gyokusho Kawabata, Bairei Kono, Shorin Fujn, Natsuo Kano and Tomohiro Takekawa, who made new departures from the Maruyama school.
