Raj Prakash Shah, Indian chemical engineer. Named Outstanding Leader, Aditya Birla Group, 2000; recipient award, Ekata Daud, 1999, Distinguished Alumnus award, Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University, 2003, award Case Study Competition ‘ANUBHAV’, Aditya Birla Group, 2003.


Shah, Raj Prakash was born on February 6, 1947 in Pilani, India. Son of Ram Niwas and Bhagawati Devi Shah.


Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India, 1969.


Trainee engineer Hindalco Industries Ltd., Renukoot, India, 1969—1971, assistant engineer India, 1972—1974, management executive India, 1974—1988, production manager India, 1988—1991, general manager India, 1991—1995, vice president India, 1995—1999, joint president India, 1999—2003, executive president, chief manufacturing officer India, since 2003.


  • Achievements include development of extraction of vanadium sludge from bayer's liquor. Development of extraction of gallium metal from bayer's liquor with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Development of introduction of mixing tee concept to convert two stream digestion proces into single stream to get rid of Stress Caustic Corrosion.

    Development of wet oxidation. Development of productivity increase from 42 gpl to 75 gpl and energy consumption from 28.2 GJ/T to 13 GJ/T. Development of sweetening process in digestion to increase production and productivity of alumina.
