Rakshit Shetty was born into a bunt family on June 6, 1983, in Udupi, India.
Shetty graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of Technology.
After graduating from the institute, Shetty worked as a software professional for two years before becoming an actor starting in theatre. Nam Areal Ondina was his first debut film as an actor which came out in 2010. However, Shetty gained stardom after Simple Agi Ondh Love Story, which was a romantic comedy released in 2013. Success followed and he released Ulidavaru Kandanthe. The film came out as a cult classic and has a passionate and long-lasting fan base. The Kannada audiences remark it as one of the best films ever made in history. Rakshit then starred in Vastu Prakaara that came out in 2015 and Godhi Banna Sadharna Mykattu in 2016 which claimed a lot of critical success. In 2016 he appeared in Kirik Party, and in 2018 he released Humble Politician Nograj. He also made cameo appearances in Bhauparak, Jaathre, Jigarthanda, and Padde Huli.
In 2019 he appeared as Narayana in Avane Srimannarayana, and released another film, Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja. Shetty will also appear in 777 Charlie in 2020, Punyakoti in 2023, and Thugs of Malgudi in 2025.
Besides his acting career, Shetty also worked as a writer for Ulidavaru Kandante, Kirik Party, Richie, and Avane Srimannarayana.
Along with directors Pawan Kumar, Anup Bhandari, and others, Rakshit Shetty has been credited by the media and in the Kannada cinema circles as having begun a "new wave of filmmaking."
