Career
Sorenson ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1971 Alberta general election. He faced a hotly contested three way race in the electoral district of Sedgewick-Coronation and ended up winning the district by less than 300 votes over Progressive Conservative candidate Herb Losness to hold the district for Social Cr who had just lost government in that election. Sorenson ran for a second term in office in the 1975 Alberta general election.
He faced another hotly contested three way race and this time ended up losing some of his popular vote.
He was defeated by Progressive Conservative candidate Henry Kroeger.
