Ian Ferguson alone held the key to the disaster that had overtaken a geological survey team more than 2,000 miles away. What drove him now to make the perilous journey through the savage, lonely wastes of Labrador to the scene of the disaster? And what was the link between this and similar events which had taken place in that same territory 50 years earlier? Hammond Innes was born in Sussex in 1913. He wrote 30 international best sellers, all of which are now being reissued by Pun. It was in the early '50s, with books like The Lonely Skier, Campbell's Kingdom, The White South and The Wreck of the Mary Deare, all of them filmed, that he achieved international fame. Hisfinal novel was Delta Connection.

(On 12th July 1776, Captain James Cook sailed from Plymout...)
On 12th July 1776, Captain James Cook sailed from Plymouth in the three-masted collier, RESOLUTION, in search of the fabled North-West Passage. This was his third amazing voyage of discovery and this is the story he might have told. The voyage swept him and his crew from the icy wasteland of the Arctic to the tropical waters of Hawaii - a voyage in pursuit of one man's dream against the fury of the elements, in the face of unknown terrors. It was also a journey that was to change life on His Majesty's ships forever... Hammond Innes has created a brilliantly imagined diary by the Captain himself, full of fascinating detail and showing a great seaman stretched to his limits.

Bailey's acceptance of this assignment plunges him into a world where the smiling face of the Maldive Islands masks unseen terrors. But the lethal dangers of the coral reefs and the remote islands are pale in comparison with the civilized jungle of high financial warfare. And the directors of Strode & Company have too much to lose, and too few scruples, to care about one man’s life - or his death.
