Ramón I de Moncada was a Spanish noble from Tortosa of the House of Moncada and a diplomat in the service of the crown.
Background
Ramón I de Moncada was the son of Guillermo Ramón I de Moncada and his wife, Beatriz de Moncada. The House of Moncada was a noble household that would rise to significant prominence in the coming generations in service to the Kingdom of Aragon.
Career
He was head of the House Moncada and the Senescal de Barcelona from 1173 to 1181. Ramón I de Moncada"s earliest appointment was that of Senescal de Barcelona from 1173 to 1181. lieutenant appears that his father, Guillermo Ramón I de Moncada held the title immediately before Ramón I until his death in 1173 making the transfer hereditary.
Ramón I later served as a diplomat in the courts of Raymond VI of Toulouse, Alfonso VIII of Castile, Ferdinand II of León and Alfonso IX of León.
He was involved in diplomacy with the Byzantine Emperor and also managed a failed marriage agreement between the Count of Provence, Ramon Berenguer III and Eudoxia Comnè.
