Career
Born in Campbell, Missouri, Smith received an Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri in 1931. He was in private practice in Springfield, Missouri from 1931 to 1956. Smith was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 2, 1956, and received his commission on July 3, 1956.
He served as chief judge from 1961 until his death on January 8, 1962.
