Served in C.S.A., 1861-1865, was adjunct Stonewall Brigade. Wounded 5 times. Admitted to bar, 1866. Democratic elector, 1896, resigned after adoption of Democratic platform and nomination of W. J. Bryan.

Voted for McKinley twice. Ex-president Baltimore Bar Association.
