Randy Robert Ream is an American lithographer and printing-industry specialist whose career included color correction, scanning, desktop publishing, and typesetting. He also created the Boss 302 Registry, a long-running reference work documenting Ford Mustang Boss 302 automobiles, and has participated in the collector community surrounding these cars.
Background
Randy Robert Ream was born on May 9, 1956, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, to Kenneth Henry Ream and Janice Lucille (Dohner) Ream. His life and career have remained associated with the Lebanon area and the wider printing and publishing industries of southeastern Pennsylvania.
Ream married Cindy Lee Gibble on June 11, 1978. They have two children, Shelbie Ann and Ryan Kenneth.
Education
Ream attended Lebanon Valley College in 1985 and 1986. The college, founded in 1866 in Annville, Pennsylvania, developed as a liberal-arts institution serving the educational needs of the region.
He also attended Crosfield Electronics training in 1988. Crosfield Electronics was an important imaging-technology company whose color scanners and electronic prepress systems helped move commercial printing from photographic processes toward digital production. The training complemented Ream's later work with scanning and color production.
Career
Ream began his professional career in the commercial printing industry as a color corrector at Lebanon Valley Offset in Annville, Pennsylvania, where he worked from 1973 to 1988. Lebanon Valley Offset was part of the regional printing infrastructure serving commercial publishers and manufacturers during the period when offset lithography remained a major high-volume printing process.
From 1988 to 1990, Ream worked as a scanner operator with Graphics Trade in East Petersburg, Pennsylvania. His work coincided with the growing adoption of electronic color scanning and digital prepress equipment, technologies that allowed images to be prepared for printing with increasing precision and speed.
In 1989–1993, he also worked as a typesetting specialist and consultant for Print Typographers in Lebanon. Typesetting was undergoing a major technological transition during this period as desktop-publishing software and digital page composition increasingly replaced traditional mechanical and photographic methods.
Beginning in 1990, Ream worked in the scanning and desktop-publishing studio of Fidelity Color Inc. in Brownstown, Pennsylvania. His professional background also included later work with Intellicor Communications, a Lancaster-area direct-mail and printing company, where his experience remained connected to commercial print production and mailing services.
Ream's automotive interests developed alongside his printing career. Since 1981 he has been associated with the Boss 302 Registry, which documents Ford Mustang Boss 302 and related high-performance automobiles. He published the first edition of the Boss 302 Registry in 1984 and continued contributing to later editions and registry activities. The registry became a reference point for owners and historians of the 1969–1970 Boss Mustangs, while Ream also participated in gatherings and public discussions devoted to the preservation of these cars.
