Career
Following his arrival in Washington in 1897 he opened a branch office for the late Henry Ives Cobb, later practiced under the firm name of Harding and Upman, identified with the design of the Y. M. C. A. Building, Congress Hotel, and the Woodward Building (where the firm established headquarters) all in Washington.
During a later period (1924-48) he was associated in partnership with Percy C. Adams (Upman & Adams) and under the firm name executed a number of important commissions, including Hospitals for the Army and Navy Department and certain buildings for the Post Office Department. He also designed many public schools outside of the city in the neighboring counties of Maryland and Virginia.
