A prominent member of the “Catholic clan” in a predominantly Muslim cabinet. This small Catholic group has had a stabilizing effect, appreciated by President Tombalbaye, who is a Protestant. But since it is generally accepted that no Catholic will ever succeed to the Presidency, it looks like this dedicated technocrat, who became a cabinet minister at 26, might have reached his peak in politics.
