Career
He served as a cabinet minister in the government of Harry Strom from 1969 to 1971. Ratzlaff ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature as a Social Cr candidate in the 1967 Alberta general election. Ratzlaff was appointed to the Executive Council of Alberta on May 27, 1969 to be the Minister of Industry and Tourism by Premier Harry Strom.
He ran for a second term in the 1971 Alberta general election but was defeated by Progressive Conservative candidate Allan Warrack in a very close race.
The race was one of the closest of the election with Ratzlaff being defeated by just 8 votes.
