Torrey, Raymond Hezekiah was born on July 15, 1880 in Georgetown, Massachusetts, United States. Son of Grafton Francis and Leonora Margaret (Warren) Torrey.


Graduated from the high school, Georgetown, 1898.


Reporter Georgetown Advocate, 1896-1899, Springfield (Massachusetts) Union, 1899-1903. Reporter, re-write man, copy reader, night manager, New York City News Association, 1903-1911. With New York American, 1911-1913 and 1916-1919, New York Tribune, 1913-1916, New York Evening Post (editor rotogravure section), 1919-1924.

Secretary New York State Council of Parks, 1924. Field secretary National Conference on State Parks, 1925-1927. Secretary American Scenic and History Preservation Society, since 1927. Secretary Association for Protection of Adirondacks, since 1929.
