Commander, 1890; Commanded His Majesty’s Ship “Ganges”. Received Royal Humane Society’s bronze medal for saving life, 1873. Thanks of French Government with a piece of Sevres china for exertions in rescuing the corvette “Seigneley” when ashore at Jatfa, 1892.
Captain, 1896; Assistant Director of Naval Intelligence, 1897-1900. Flag-Captain to Rear-Admiral Lord C. Beresford in His Majesty’s Ship “ Ramillies ”. Captain of His Majesty’s Ship “ Hood,” 1902.
