Instructor, examiner in French and German, University of Southern Florida, 1961-1963; instructor, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Defense College, Paris, 1963-1964; instructor, Wellesley College, 1964-1965; assistant professor Romance Langs., Boston College, 1965-1968; associate, Boston College, 1968-1973; professor, Boston College, since 1973. Lecturer, consultant foreign language pedagogy. Fulbright senior lecturer, Germany, 1974.

American Council on Education fellow in academic administration, 1976-1977.
