Career
She was elected as a Teachta Dála (Territorial Decoration) for the Meath East constituency at the 2011 general election. She was an unsuccessful candidate for Meath East at the 2007 general election. Doherty was re-elected to the 32nd Dail on the 26th of February 2016. and appointed to the new the Dáil reform committee on the 22nd of March of that year.
In January 2013, Doherty"s Information Technology consultancy company went into liquidation with debts of €280,000, including €60,000 due to the Revenue Commissioners.
In May 2015, following the claims of Ireland Republican Army involvement of the cover-up of sexual abuse by Máiría Cahill, Doherty was provided with names of a number of alleged abusers which she passed on to the Gardai who are investigating the issue.
