His appearance in the formerly all-white United States Lawn Tennis Association"s (USLTA) national indoor tournament in 1948 was a monumental landmark in United States black sporting history. He was born on 30 September 1911 in Washington, District of Columbia. He died on 22 August 1987 in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.

Achievements

• He was captain of the City College of New York men"s tennis team and was ATA national champion in 1931, 1932, 1933, 1937, and 1942.
