Reigan was born either in Suruga (Shizuoka Prefecture) or in Kazusa Province (Chiba Prefecture) in 1554 .
Became a priest of the Jodo Sect (1564) and studied in various places. He went to Nara and lectured on Abhidharmakosa (1590). Afterward he went to Awa Province (Chiba Prefecture) and converted its lord, Yoshitaka Satomi.
He became 32nd Chief Abbot of the Chion-in Temple in Kyoto (1629) and gave sermons on the Jodo Sect doctrine in the presence of ex-Emperor Gomino-o. Died at the Reiganji Temple, Fukagawa, Edo.
There were many distinguished priests among his disciples, who were said to have totaled 3,000.
