Writer and lecturer on German history, delivered series of lectures Lowell Institute, 1857-1859. Became American citizen, 1859.
Appointed assistant register United States Treasury for aid in attracting German vote to Republican Party, 1861-1864. Author: Erinnerung (eulogistic poem, won prize in New York), 1859.
