Renzo Sawada graduated from French Law Course of Tokyo University (1914).
Renzo Sawada served as councilor of Embassy in France, Consul General in New York and councilor of Embassy in Manchukuo and thereafter became Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs in Konoe Cabinet (1938) and Ambassador to France. Then as first Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar took active part in conclusion of territorial agreement between Japan and Myanmar (1943).
He was appointed Ambassador to head Japanese Delegation to United Nations (1953) and worked to solve problems of repatriation of Japanese prisoners held by the U.S. and admittance of Japan into United Nations membership. Almost all preliminary negotiations following Soviet proposal for readjustment of diplomatic relations with Japan (1955), were conducted through him in New York.
