Career
May, moved to Vernon County, Wisconsin. During the American Civil War, he served in the Union Army, reaching the rank of colonel. Much of his family, however, remained in Kentucky and supported secession.
He was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Wisconsin twice.
He lost to William East. Smith both times.
