Chief engineer United States Ship Petrel, under Commodore Dewey in Battle of Manila Bay, May 1, 1898, and acting industrial manager of Cavite Navy Yard during Spanish-American War, 1898. Squadron engineer, Caribbean Squadron, 1903. Fleet engineer, European Station, 1904.

Head of Department of Steam Engineering, Navy Yard, New York, 1907, 1908. Advanced 3 numbers in rank “for eminent and conspicuous conduct in battle during Spanish-American War”. Dewey Medal.
