Riccardo Bavaj studied Medieval and Modern History, Eastern European History and Economics at the Universities of Bonn and Southampton. He earned his Master’s degree in 2001 and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in 2004.
After working as a research fellow at the Westphalian Institute for Regional Studies in Münster he took up a position at the University of Street Andrews in Scotland in 2005, teaching German and European contemporary history. From 2009 to 2011 Riccardo Bavaj was conducting research in the United States of America as a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. During that time he was a visiting professor at Saint Louis University.
